Ribera wine

The project 'El Vino Comenge' of the Ribera Del Duero region.

The Comenge winery was constituted in 1999. That was the year when Jaime Comenge, the Founder and President, was enticed by the beauty of the Duero River basin. He began to meticulously select the grounds where the plantation of 12 hectares (29.65 acres) that belong to the Pesquera de Duero and Curiel de Duero municipalities. During the year 2001, another 16 hectares (39.54 acres) were acquired in an unmatched setting in order to build the installations of the winery. The project grew little by little, adding up all of the efforts and with investments from new partners, the vineyard would grow to today’s total of 34 hectares (84 acres).

The winery is located in the Cuco Valley between the natural pools, vines and castles in delightful surroundings, far from the noise and the haste, one can savor the shades of the horizon. The building of the winery is of simple lines and vanguard architecture. This building provides for our winemaking in accordance the wine culture of Ribera Del Duero. This building has an exceptional view of the Duero and its vineyards.

The name of the winery and the wine is adopted in honor to D. Miguel Comenge Gerpe, father of the President of the winery and author of one of the most important Spanish books on wine making and vineyards. His book, published in 1942, and has become reference manual for any student of winemaking.
