Peñafiel

Castillo: Considered one of the most beautiful fortresses in the country, the castle is located atop a hill from which you can see much of the Shire. The present building dates from S. XV, although records are kept of S. X which is already mentioned the existence of a castle in Peñafiel. This primitive fortress underwent many changes throughout history, one of the most important took place in the S. XIV of the hands of the Infante Don Juan Manuel, a famous warrior and writer (author of The Count Lucanor) and Lord also of Peñafiel.
